Pune, 5 Oct 2015: Lashing out at the incumbent union government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideological mentor Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) for their “oppressive attitude towards minority communities and Dalits,” retired Indian judges gave the call for an “RSS Mukt Bharat” (RSS-Free India) at a rally in Pune on Sunday.

Ex-High Court Justice B.G. Kolse-Patil who, along with retired Supreme Court Justice P.B. Sawant, formed a campaign platform named Desh Bachao Aghadi, called for an “RSS-Free India” on 4 October at Shaniwar Wada of Pune city. Justice Kolse-Paitil reportedly accused the BJP governments both at the center and Maharashtra of acting at the behest of the radical saffron outfit RSS.

Under the umbrella of Desh Bachao Aghadi, several Muslim and Dalit organizations across the state came together for the rally, reported Pune Mirror, a city-based newspaper from Pune, Maharashtra.

Apart from the judges, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) members Jitendra Awhad and Srimant Kokate were also present in the rally.

NCP leader Kokate said, "If we want to save humanity in this country, we have to bring Dalits, Muslims and Adivasis together. Only then can humanity survive.”

After the rally, Justice Kolse-Patil reportedly said that the police had not given them permission to put up LCD screens at the venue and even restricted supporters of the rally from entering the city. The police, however, refuted the allegation saying the organizers had the permission for the rally and not for putting up the LCD screens at the venue.
