Tribal students from Maoist-hit Dantewada to interact live with Modi
Ejaz Kaiser, Hindustan Times Raipur, September 05, 2014
15 tribal students in strife-torn Dantewada district of south Chhattisgarh, Teachers' Day will be different on Friday. They will directly interact with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
Some of these students, from Class 5 to Class 12, also happen to be victims of the Maoist violence, HT has learnt. They have being taken through the ropes of video conferencing for the last couple of days to participate in the interactive session with Modi.
Dantewada, about 400 km south of Raipur, is the only district selected in the state — where the BJP is in power — for the interaction.
The government of India officials have already carried out few trial rounds and cited the preparation as most satisfactory among the seven districts from where students will be interacting with the PM.
“We got an email of appreciation that our preparation has been far better than the other districts. The light, sound, battery back-up arrangement and other things have been thoroughly checked by the GoI officials and they appeared much satisfied,” Dantewada collector KC Devasenapathi said.
The principals of different schools in the district were asked to select two students for the event. “The 15 tribal students are quite excited and looking forward to the session. They are good in communication and speak English,” the collector said.
Meanwhile the HT has accessed the circular issued by the school education department. It has directed the officials to ensure the schools have television sets or radios and even put to use the internet for live streaming of Modi’s speech.
The circular has been issued to all district collectors, chief executive officers of district panchayats and the district education officers. They have been directed to conduct the school hours on Friday from 11 am to 5 pm. For emergency situation arising out of power-cut or interruption, the circular further instructs to keep generators or invertors ready. All 224 centres connected with Education Satellite (Edusat) have been technically examined and tested for live telecast of the programme.
Chief minister Raman Singh has appealed for the maximum participation of students and teachers during the telecast of the PM’s speech.
Interestingly, the government has instructed all concerned officials to mail or fax their reports about the programme from respective districts by evening. “Everything will be monitored", a school principal who did not want to be named said.
