FVillagers, who had been falsely arrested by the police branding them as Maoists, have been acquitted after 2 years by the Paralakhemundi Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court due to lack of evidences.
The villagers were identified as Bulu Malik, Kalia Malik, Surendra Malik and Jalandhar Malik of Bhaliaguda village under the Mohana police station of Gajapati district. They were arrested by the police following the infamous Bhaliaguda encounter that took place at Bhaliaguda village on November 14, 2012. After the killing of 5 innocent tribal and dalits of Kandhamal district by security forces, their dead bodies were brought to Mohana Police Station by the help of these persons and police was also given Rs.1600/- to them as wages. But a fact finding team led by Mr. Ratan Das of ‘Odisha Sarvoday Samaj’ became astonished when they saw 4 persons whose hands and feet were tied up with wires with the tight watch of security persons. When they tried to took snaps of the incident, they were threatened by security forces and their camera also snatched by them. After returning from village they were narrated about the incident before the media. The next day on 17th November, 2012 police was forwarded the victims to the court with false charges. Their bail petition were rejected by times to time and lastly they acquitted by ADJ, Paralakhemundi on 8th December, 2014.  The Campaign against Fabricated Cases (CAFC) convener Narendra Mohanty and advisor Biswapriya Kanungo said that the acquittal proved that the Bhaliaguda encounter was fake. “Family members of the deceased who were killed in the police encounter will get justice one day,” said by CAFC.
